SUMMARY:The Every Brothers
DESCRIPTION:Live on Stage  \nAs part of Remembrance Day commemorations in Roade\, Ron Johnson wrote a five act play about three casualties of WW2\, the Every Brothers\, sons of a London family evacuated to our village during the war. His source was an archive kindly donated by the family to Roade Local History Society. It was staged on 9th November at Elizabeth Woodville School\, Roade\, before a packed audience of locals\, Deputy Lord-Lieutenant Col John Royle MBE\, four JPs\, members of Roade & District and Duston branches of The Royal British Legion and other military and ex-military personnel.\nUsing a minimal\, well-lit stage set\, and structured round a narrator\, the drama sets out the background\, and then enacts events in the home life and military careers of the brothers one by one. Keeping strictly to unadorned format and delivery\, script and cast avoided sentimentality and mawkishness\, instead generating a cumulative sense of tragedies overtaking a very ordinary family.\nIt would be invidious to single out any one of the cast for special praise when each player brought a high level of competence to the part. It was an expert performance of a fine work\, creating genuine emotion in the audience\, and saluted at the end by that rarity\, a standing ovation.

The multi-instrumentalist and singer also headlines his own Elvis Presley spectacular.  \n“Every year\,” says Fisher\, “I combine the two in a show exclusively for local music fans in a production titled The King and Diamond Show.\n“After a year crisscrossing the UK between The Highlands and Cornwall with my shows\, it’s something I particularly look forward to – a chance to let my hair down with friends\, family and local theatregoers.”  \nThe King and Diamond is a non-stop\, hit-packed show that combines Neil Diamond classics Sweet Caroline\, Song Sung Blue\, Cracklin ’Rosie and Forever in Blue Jeans with Elvis Presley standards Burning Love\, Heartbreak Hotel\, All Shook Up\, In the Ghetto\, American Trilogy plus many\, many more\, all performed with the amazing band who tour with Fisher on both his theatre shows!  \nCostumes\, instruments and stage settings recreate the energy and excitement of the original artistes.

World War II is still raging\, and the US Navy has established several bases in this corner of the South Pacific in order to press towards New Guinea and the Central Pacific.  \nOne night Nellie Forbush (Mitzi Gaynor)\, a US nurse\, meets Emile de Becque (Rossano Brazzi)\, a French painter who lives near one of the bases\, and a whirlwind romance begins. When Nellie finds out that the mother of Emile’s children was a native of the island\, she turns down his proposal of marriage\, unable to overcome the prejudices she was raised with.  \nIn the meantime\, Lieutenant Cable (John Kerr) has arrived on a mission to set up a spy post on a nearby island that is occupied by the Japanese. He\, too\, gets involved in a romance that is star-crossed by nothing more than prejudice: he refuses to marry innocent island girl Liat (France Nuyen) despite the girl’s willingness and her mother’s insistent matchmaking attempts. He hates himself for turning the girl down\, and admits that his aversion to marriage to a woman from another culture is not natural: You have to be carefully taught.  \nCable\, with the reluctant help of de Becque\, who has been pressured into assisting\, begins his spy mission on the Japanese island. When things go wrong\, Cable is killed\, but de Becque survives and returns to the waiting arms of a very relieved Nellie\, who finally agrees to marry Emile.
