Award winning production to launch ‘Drama at the Deco’

Northampton’s Deco Theature is building on its flourishing reputation as a popular entertainment venue, by launching a series of drama and comedy productions later this year. The ‘Drama at the Deco’ series will be starting on Thursday, June 14, with the award-winning production Scaramouche Jones, which has won rave reviews all over the country.

Having established itself over 10 years for its acclaimed, and more recently sold out, Christmas Pantos, and for its musical entertainment – from hosting legends such as Martha Reeves and the Real Thing, to outstanding tribute acts – putting on drama is, according to management of the Abington Square based theatre, ‘natural progress’.

“As The Deco has grown, in terms of awareness and the popularity of the shows we put on, we have been looking to offer even more choice,” said House Manager of The Deco Theatre, Jill Roach. “We are now looking to put on some great drama and comedy productions, which, for us, seemed the next logical step.”

The Deco has teamed up with Northampton based, award winning, White Cobra Productions to put on a season of ‘Drama at the Deco’ later this year. White Cobra impressed Deco management last year with their hilarious stage production of the iconic BBC sit-com, ‘Hi De Hi’.

“It’s terrific that we share with The Deco management a passion to provide top quality live entertainment at affordable prices,” said Richard Jordan, company director of White Cobra Productions. “Often families find it difficult to afford a trip to the theatre, and we want everyone to have the opportunity to enjoy the experience.

“We will be putting on a wide range of shows, and making sure there’ll be something to appeal to all tastes,” he said. “Our productions will be sensibly priced, because we are passionate about encouraging theatre for all.”

‘Scaramouche Jones’ launches the ‘Drama at the Deco’ series on Thursday, June 14. It is a production whose multitude of awards include the top prize at the British All-Winners Drama Festival last year. Dates for other productions are still being finalised, and will be announced shortly,

Said Jill Roach: “This is a fabulous production for us to launch with: ‘Scaramouche Jones’ is an amazing production, and this will be a great chance for local people to see a show which that has wowed audiences wherever it’s been performed throughout the country.”

‘Peter Pan’ stars pledge themselves to a Deco Panto return this Christmas!

Comments Off on ‘Peter Pan’ stars pledge themselves to a Deco Panto return this Christmas!

Two popular stars of the Deco Theatre’s recent ‘Peter Pan’ production have already signed up to return for this year’s Christmas Panto, ‘Cinderella’.

Colin Ridgewell, who played Captain Hook in last month’s show, and Chris Wills (pictured), who was Peter Pan, proved such a big hit with audiences they were immediately invited back. And they have gladly pledged themselves to the family run Northampton town centre theatre yet again.

Indeed, it will be Colin’s fourth Deco Panto, and Chris’s third. Both said they had no hesitation in committing themselves once again.

“I absolutely love working at The Deco,” said Colin, who first made his name as one of the young stars of the BBC children’s series ‘Grange Hill’ in the 1990s. “The audiences are always fantastic, the productions are all of the highest standard, and the team behind the scenes are awesome.

“I had such great fun, once again, in Peter Pan, I was proud to be part of such a great Panto, and the feedback we had from so many people gave us all such a buzz, and was so much appreciated by us all.”

Chris, a popular children’s entertainer on stage and TV, said The Deco is one of his favourite theatres, and loves the atmosphere it generates. He said: “It’s a lovely, homely theatre, and the audiences generate such a wonderful atmosphere at Panto time it really is a privilege to be up there on stage performing.

“Like Colin, I had absolutely no hesitation in committing myself once again, and being part of what I know will be another awesome Panto,” said Chris. “When you work at The Deco you become part of a wonderful family, on stage and off it, and the professionalism is of the highest quality.”

Tickets for ‘Cinderella’ are already selling well, say theatre management. Any tickets bought before March 31 cost just £10, for any available seat in the house.

“We had a wonderful run of ‘Peter Pan’, with many of the shows sold out, which was fantastic,” said Deco Theatre House Manager, Jill Roach. “Colin and Chris were both fantastic, as were all the cast, and are such a pleasure to work with, and we’re delighted two of our most popular ‘regulars’ have already been booked.”

Sarah Evans brings her show, J’Adele, back to The Deco by popular demand on Friday, April 13, after a bravura performance as her hero in July 2016. Indeed, Adele herself was so impressed when she saw Sarah’s tribute show, she gave her five star rating.

If you love Adele, you’ll absolutely love this show – she had a standing ovation after her previous performance in Northampton. And if you love Take That, you will love Rule The World on Thursday, October 11 – they too were singled out by the real thing, with Gary Barlow fulsome in his praise of a tribute show has wowed audiences up and down the country, and abroad.

“We’ve had some fantastic nights at The Deco with tribute performers,” said Deco House Manager Jill Roach. “If you scout around there are some magnificent acts and performers, and we have some of the very best playing The Deco this year.

“Anyone who saw Sarah Evans as Adele when she came to Northampton 18 months ago will tell you how awesome she was – absolutely fantastic, and is coming back by popular demand; no wonder Adele herself was impressed.

“The same goes for the Take That tribute show – we’ve had lots of requests to bring them to The Deco, and are delighted we’ve finally secured them to visit Northampton in October.

“But they’re all really outstanding acts paying tribute to legendary performers, and they all put on a fantastic show, which is why we’re delighted to bring them to Northampton,” she said. “For us it means we are putting on some fantastic entertainment at The Deco to accommodate all tastes.”
