Victoria’s tribute to ‘amazing’ Cilla and 60s legends

From Manchester to Port Talbot, via The Deco in Northampton, ‘Cilla and the Shades of the 60s’ is on a four month UK Tour, following it’s astonishing success on the road in 2017.

Its return to Northampton is just one of the many venues from last year’s tour that the 2018 tour is stopping off at, arriving in Northampton on Friday, April 6, the 12th of 31 performances the length and breadth of the UK over four months.

‘Cilla and the Shades of the 60s’ pays tribute to the legend that was Cilla Black, but also to many other superstars who burst on to the music scene in the 1960s, including Lulu, Dusty Springfield, The Beatles, Tina Turner, and more.

It’s a perfect musical stage show for families and pop music fans of all ages, taking the audience on a musical journey that starts at Liverpool’s famous Cavern Club, where The Beatles, Cilla and more first made their name.

Cilla Black was 21 when she had her first UK Number 1 with ‘You’re My World’, and after a successful pop career in the 60s and 70s, went on to become the UK’s most popular TV presenter, starting with her own show, ‘Cilla’, which ran 1966-1978 to ‘Blind Date’ which ran for a record breaking 18 years.

Performing as Cilla is singer and fellow Liverpudlian Victoria Jones. “Growing up in Liverpool, I knew Cilla as a TV presenter, but when I discovered her music I was amazed by her vocal range and her emotional depth,” she told us. “I find her ballads so beautiful, and she portrays heartbreak in a truly moving way.

“Her passion has always inspired me – in fact I think I was born in the wrong decade!” she said. “Performing as Cilla gives me the opportunity to celebrate the sound and fashion of a generation of amazing women.

“I had such a brilliant time on tour last year, and I’m loving being back on the road again, and that involves coming back to Northampton again, where we had a great night last February.”

Supporting Victoria are The Shades, a fabulous trio of West End and musical theatre singers who perform some of the 60s’ greatest hits individually and together; their costumes and dance routines are second to none. And the hairstyles are also very 1960s, too!
